JANESVILLE — The City of Janesville will host a Community Engagement Forum for a proposed Aquatics Facility project to replace the existing wading pool at Palmer Park.

The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Hedberg Public Library (316 S. Main St.). A brief project presentation will take place at 5:45 p.m.

A 2021 Aquatics facility evaluation determined Palmer Wading Pool had reached the end of its useful life. The city is working with Parkitecture + Planning to formalize the design for the Palmer Aquatics facility.

A Palmer Aquatics Design Work Team was established with representatives from the City Council, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, Community, and Recreation, Engineering, and Technical Services staff members to provide input into this project.

The proposed Palmer Park pool renovation includes a single vessel design with zero-depth entry, aquatic play features, limited lap lanes, and other amenities. In addition, a new pool building will house mechanicals, bathrooms/showers, a staff area, and concessions.

This option makes for distinctly different aquatic facilities in our community to complement Rockport 50-meter pool, Riverside Park Splash Pad, Lions Beach and the Bubbler in the Town Square.

The new facility is proposed to be located west of S. Harmony Drive in Palmer Park. This location offers many advantages, including its proximity to other park amenities and location outside of flood hazard areas throughout Palmer Park.

The proposed project would also activate an underutilized area of the park, open up new programming and special event space, and add additional parking to serve all park users.

All members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend this forum. The forum will allow interested community members to learn more about the project and provide feedback and opinions. Project displays will be provided, and project representatives from the City of Janesville and a consultant will be available to discuss the proposed project and address any questions or comments.
