BELOIT — It may have been Cyber Monday, but Gov. Tony Evers was supporting local businesses the old fashionrd way during a stop in Beloit as part of his Shop Small Wisconsin statewide tour.

Evers paid a visit Monday to Bushel and Peck’s Local Market where he browsed their collection of local food and merchandise, mingled with shoppers and chatted with co-owner Jackie Gennett and her staff.

Evers began the statewide Shop Small Wisconsin tour Saturday in Antigo after issuing an official proclamation earlier in the day.

In it, Evers noted that, “small businesses are powerful drivers of local and statewide economies, and it is estimated that about two-thirds of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the local community, as small businesses are more likely to buy supplies locally, hire locally, and give back to their communities.”

Bushel and Peck’s, an anchor of Beloit’s downtown, is known for its laid back atmosphere, fresh dining options in its cafe and its signature hot sauces, jams and pickled preserves.
