JANESVILLE — Janesville could have a new Cousins Subs if project continues to move successfully through the city’s approval process.

A conditional use permit for the project was approved Dec. 18, 2023 by the city’s Plan Commision. The project now moves to the full city council, likely in January, for a vote on zoning approval to forward.

Developers plan to construct a Cousins Subs restaurant with drive-thru facilities on a vacant commercial lot at 2117 West Court Street.

The lot is located next to the Pizza Hut currently on West Court Street.

The plan is for a 2,100 square foot drive-thru restaurant that would serve various food/drink options, according to a city of Janesville Planning Commission memorandum.

The building would have two main entrances, one facing West Court Street to the north, and one facing the surface parking stalls to the west.

The restaurant would have both interior dining space and drive-thru facilities to serve customers.

Typical store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with hours varying slightly depending on staff availability and local demand.

Developers say they could employ roughly 25 full and part-time workers.

The company announced in August plans to open two locations in Janesville, however there’s now word yet on the proposed second site.
