JANESVILLE — Candidates for Janesville City Council and other local offices can begin circulating nomination papers today for the spring 2024 election Dec. 1, 2023.

The April election also will have the presidential primary on the ballot.

The City Council has seven members, and three seats will be on the ballot this spring. The incumbents whose seats are up for election are Councilmembers:

Paul Benson

Aaron Burdick

Paul Williams. 

Anyone interested in running for City Council may pick up an information packet, including nomination papers, on the 2nd floor lobby of City Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An online version of the packet is available on the City’s website.

Prospective candidates must submit a minimum of 100 valid signatures from City of Janesville residents. Staff recommends submitting between 100 and 200 signatures to ensure ballot access. The deadline for declaration of noncandidacy for incumbents is Friday, December 22, 2023. Nomination papers and all forms must be completed and filed with the City Clerk-Treasurer by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

The spring election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Candidates must file required forms with the City Clerk before forming a committee and raising funds. Newly elected City Council members will take office on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
