JANESVILLE — A group of Mercyhealth staff members in Janesville are being recognized for putting together an impromptu birthday celebration when they learned a patient had no one to celebrate with.
According to a social media post, the patient called to reschedule her mammogram and bone density screenings.
One of the staff members noticed that the rescheduled date happened to be the patient’s birthday.
She asked if she wanted to choose a different day, but the patient said that she lives alone and doesn’t have any family, and felt the trip to the breast center would get her out of the house.
That’s when several more staff members stepped in to organize a small celebration for the patient, complete with a large cupcake and a birthday card.
“Our teams do what it takes to give the very best care to our patients,” read the post on Facebook.
Corrine, Amy, Gaythel, Linda, Martha and Connie from the Mercyhealth Breast Center in Janesville were honored with a Shield of Excellence award for their celebration of one of our patients.
The patient was very touched and thankful.
