JANESVILLE — The Rock County Fair Board has applied for a temporary permit to sell malt beverages during the 2024 fair in July.

The city of Janesville’s Alcohol License Advisory Committee will discuss the application at its March 5 meeting.

Sales and consumption will be restricted to a fenced-in area near the grandstands, according to the application.

Beer will be sold in the original containers and proper protocol will be followed for the event to ensure the health and safety of the patrons, the board said.

The Fair Board says it will work with Janesville Mobilizing 4 Change, who will be providing ID card scanners.

ID’s will be checked, and wristbands applied to those above 21. No one under the age of 21 will be allowed in the tent or fenced in area where beer sales will take place.

The application said there will be onsite private security for the event’s duration for alcohol sales. The Sheriff’s office will continue to provide overall grounds security as they have done previously.

The Rock County Fair Board has hosted other events with alcohol sales in the past, such as recent food truck events.

The fair will be held July 23-28, 2024 at the Rock County Fairgrounds in Janesville.
