JANESVILLE — Four people were able to get out safely after fire broke out Friday in their Janesville home.

On Friday afternoon, Janesville firefighters responded to 809 W. Holmes St for a reported structure fire, according to a news release.

When they arrived, firefighters found a single-family home with smoke coming from the attic and eaves. The four residents who were inside the home at the time all evacuated safely.

The blaze appeared to have started in a second story bedroom and spread into the attic. Heavy smoke conditions were also found throughout the second floor.

Twenty-nine JFD firefighters responded to the scene and a “Working Still Alarm” was requested which brought additional resources from Lakeside Fire. The Janesville Police Department was also on the scene to assist.

No injuries were reported and the American Red Cross was called to assist the family with temporary housing and other necessities.

Damages to the home and contents is estimated at $75,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
