JANESVILLE — A Janesville family will be staying with relatives will their home is being repaired following a Tuesday morning fire.

According to a news release, the City of Janesville Fire Department responded to a house fire about 6:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Fremont Street.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the rear of the home when they arrived. The occupants had all safely evacuated and gathered across the street.

The fire was extinguished by crews using a hoseline and no injuries were reported.

Damage to the home was extensive, but the home was equipped with working smoke alarms, according to fire officials.

The Janesville Fire Department was assisted by call-in personnel, Lakeside Fire Department, and the Janesville Police Department.

26 firefighters responded in total.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but this is the fifth structure fire in the city in a little over a week.
