JANESVILLE — A Janesville police officer on Wednesday received the chief’s commendation for recently helping save the life of an unresponsive infant.

According to the Janesville Police Department, Officer Kirk Larson wasn’t initially dispatched to the critical emergency, but arrived without hesitation and was the first officer on the scene.

He was immediately handed an unresponsive infant by a family member.

Demonstrating exceptional training and composure he began proper chest compressions. Shortly after, a sergeant arrived and said that although Larson was surrounded by a chaotic scene, he made the child’s care his priority.

Larson remained focused and dedicated to saving the infant’s life, continuing life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Larson’s efforts continued as he accompanied the infant in the ambulance as paramedics continued medical treatment.

He remained by the child’s side throughout the transport to a local hospital where his actions were confirmed crucial by medical staff in saving the child’s life.
