JANESVILLE — The Janesville Police Department cited clerks at five businesses Wednesday during alcohol sales compliance checks.
Police conducted the checks Oct. 30 at 13 local businesses that sell alcohol.
The purpose of the checks is to ensure that businesses are checking identification and not selling to underage persons, according to a JPD news release.
The checks are conducted by having an 18-20 year old attempt to purchase alcohol from a business.
If the underage person is allowed to purchase, the clerk is cited for selling the alcohol.
The information is also forwarded to the City of Janesville Alcohol Licensing Committee for their review.
Of the checks that were conducted on Oct. 30, five businesses sold to the underage person.
They are:
Festival Foods, 2233 Humes Rd.
Lions Quick Mart, 2615 Milton Ave.
Hy-Vee, 2500 Humes Rd.
Five Point Beverage, 600 W. Milwaukee St.
Mulligans Convenience Store, 3961 Milton Ave.
The businesses that did not sell alcohol to the underage person were:
Citgo, 404 N. Parker Dr.
J & R Liquor, 1401 W. Court St.
Cork and Bottle Food Shop, 1418 W. Memorial Dr.
Virk’s Liquor, 2807 W. Court St.
Liquor Cabinet, 1924 E. Milwaukee St.
Walmart, 3800 Deerfield Dr.
TA Express, 3222 Humes Rd.
Woodmans, 2819 N. Lexington Dr.
