JANESVILLE — Workers poured footings Monday as work continued on the new Palmer Park Aquatic Center.
The Janesville City Council in August approved a $4.2 million construction contract for a new aquatic center at Palmer Park to replace the wading pool in Palmer Park.
The wading pool has since been removed and filled in, with the aquatic center being built on the other side of the picnic pavilion off the entrance from E. Racine Street.
The project includes construction of a new 3,500 square foot pool building (admissions, concessions, restrooms, mechanical, and storage), 5,000 square foot zero-depth entry pool, concrete pavement, fencing, earthwork, asphalt paving, pavement markings, building, and site demolition (existing pool and pump building), electrical and lighting, plumbing, site utilities, and restoration.
JP Cullen & Sons, Inc. providing the lowest construction bid at $3,429.000. Contingencies and other costs bring the total to $4,218,000.
The aquatic center is expected to open in time for the summer swimming season in 2025.
