JANESVILLE — Requests for school transfers or placements within the School District of Janesville for childcare reasons or parental choice for the 2025-26 school year are now open through Dec. 13, 2024.
Application forms are available in school offices or at the Education Services Center (ESC), 527 S. Franklin St., Janesville, WI.
Parents/Guardians who would like to choose a school for their child(ren) within SDJ that is different from their assigned school (below), may complete an application. Completed applications for the 2025-’26 school year must be returned no later than December 13, 2024.
All requests for transfer submitted must include a parent/guardian photo identification and proof of residency dated within the last 60 days (utility bill, government mailing, or copy of a current dated term lease). A letter approving or denying complete intra-district requests received no later than Dec. 13, 2024, will be mailed to families on or before January 16, 2025.
Additional Grade Level Information:
Kindergarten: Transfer applications for all students entering Kindergarten, all students either enrolled in the district or currently not enrolled, must be submitted between December 2-13, 2024, by appointment (call 608-743-5011) at the New Student Enrollment Office at the ESC, 527 S. Franklin St., Janesville, WI. Students who are not already enrolled in SDJ must complete enrollment for Kindergarten by appointment starting December 2, 2024. State law requires children to be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2025, to be eligible for Kindergarten during the 2025-26 school year.
Parents/guardians should bring the following when enrolling kindergarten students:
● Student Birth certificate
● Student Immunization Record (Wisconsin residents may search the Wisconsin Immunization Registry at https://www.dhfswir.org/PR/clientSearch.do?language=en)
● Parent/guardian photo identification
● Proof of residency dated within the last 60 days (utility bill, government mailing, or copy of a current dated term lease)
1st – 5th Grade: Applications for 1st grade through 5th grade transfers must be returned by appointment (call 608-743-5011) to the New Student Enrollment Office at the ESC, 527 S. Franklin St., Janesville, WI. Please note that elementary transfer requests are subject to approval by the Pupil Services Department. All requests for transfer submitted must include a parent/guardian photo identification and proof of residency dated within the last 60 days (utility bill, government mailing, or copy of a current dated term lease).
Middle and High School (6-12th Grade): Applications for middle and high school transfers must be submitted to the middle or high school the student is assigned under the pathway system model. Middle and high school principals will review these transfers. All requests for transfer submitted must include a parent/guardian photo identification and proof of residency dated within the last 60 days (utility bill, government mailing, or copy of a current dated term lease).
Current student pathways are based on the school they are now attending. New students to the district are assigned to schools based on their home address unless they are approved for a transfer to another SDJ school. Pathways are as follows:
