Kent Anderson

JANESVILLE — The Children’s Museum of Rock County has hired its first executive director.

Kent Anderson will be joining the CMRC as the organization’s inaugural executive director, making him the first official paid employee of the non-profit and signaling the museum’s transition from concept to operational.

“I am energized by the excitement around the Children’s Museum of Rock County and eager to step into this new role and help build something truly meaningful,” said Anderson. “As a dad, coach, and non-profit leader, I know this project will benefit youth and families for years to come. I’m honored the board has trusted me to lead the project to the finish line.”

CMRC representatives said that they had more than 80 applicants for the position. Those candidates were narrowed down through a multi-step process by a Board of Directors subcommittee consisting of John Westphal, Sara Iverson Smith, Elizabeth Paull, and Mitch Benson.

Anderson’s leadership experience includes working as the Director of Operations and CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids where he helped lead a $27.5 million capital project. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration with a Certificate in Project Management and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management.

“We were highly impressed with his prior experience co-leading a $27.5 million capital project during his tenure with the Boys & Girls Club in Wisconsin Rapids. The successful completion of this project in 2020, and the detailed insights he shared regarding its execution, demonstrate a strong alignment with our current development initiatives in Janesville,” commented Iverson Smith.

“Kent comes to us with great experience and background,” added Benson. “His enthusiasm and high drive made him an excellent candidate for this new leadership position at our children’s museum.”

Last week, the CMRC announced its top private donor and a $500,000 matching campaign. In its previous release, representatives also stated that they are finalizing construction and design plans and will soon be announcing a groundbreaking date.

“I am honored and excited to be a part of a project that will not only enhance Janesville but provide an incredible resource for families and kids in Rock County and beyond,” said Anderson.
