BELOIT — Two Beloit Police officers entered the Rock River early Sunday morning to help a suspected drunken driver trapped in a submerged Jeep.

Officers originally responded to the Liberty Avenue and Third Street area at 1:38 a.m. Sunday to a report of a vehicle driving into the water. The Jeep was about 40 yards into the river and sinking.

According to a news release, when the officers arrived, they dropped their gear and entered the water. After the Jeep was fully submerged, the man finally was able to break his window. One of the officers then reached the man and helped push him to shore.
