JANESVILLE — The Cozy Inn family will host author Steven Schwankert for a special presentation, where he will discuss his newly released book, “The Six: The Untold Story of the Titanic’s Chinese Survivors.”
The presentation will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11 a.m. at 215 W. Milwaukee St., located across from the Cozy Inn Restaurant.
One of the six Chinese survivors of the Titanic was Fang Lang (also known as Fong Wing-sun).
His incredible story of survival, clinging to a floating door until rescued, is believed to have inspired the iconic scene in James Cameron’s “Titanic” where Rose is saved on a floating piece of debris.
Later in life, Fang Lang immigrated to the United States and, in 1973, acquired the Cozy Inn in Janesville, Wisconsin.
This makes the Cozy Inn, Wisconsin’s oldest Chinese restaurant, a place with a direct connection to a Titanic survivor.
Fang Lang passed away in 1986, but his son Tom Fong and his wife, Amanda, currently run the Cozy Inn, preserving his father’s legacy and the unique history of the restaurant.
