MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Street from Atwood Avenue to Ringold Street has been reconstructed as a part of the 2025 Street Rehabilitation Program and is scheduled to open to all traffic Friday, August 1.
Drivers will notice several differences along the reconstructed corridor, including changes to the typical section, traffic control, and road geometry.
These changes were implemented to enhance safety and to implement recommendations from the Long Range Transportation Plan. Here’s what drivers can expect:
- Between Garfield Avenue and Ringold Street, the travel lanes have changed with westbound traffic dropping down to a single travel lane, and on-street bike lanes have been added in both directions.
- Between Atwood Avenue and Garfield Avenue, the bike lanes have been shifted to the north side, including an eastbound counterflow bike lane, creating a two-way bike facility. Vehicular traffic will remain one-way in the westbound direction and will need to remain to the left of the double yellow line.
- The intersection of E Milwaukee Street, Garfield Avenue, and E Centerway has been reconfigured to improve safety. All traffic will now be directed through a single intersection at E Centerway and Garfield Avenue with an all-way stop.
- Transit Route 5: Milwaukee Street will no longer be on detour and will resume with regular routing.
