JANESVILLE — The Schnucks grocery store on Janesville’s east side will close in September, its corporate office announced Friday.
The store, located at 1501 Creston Park Drive, just off Milton Avenue, and will permanently close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.
The neighborhood Schnucks is not for from a heavy concentration of grocery stores along the busy Highway 14 corridor. They include a Hy-Vee and Festival, joining Woodman’s, Aldi and Walmart within a short distance of each other.
“The decision to close a store is never an easy one to make; however, the Janesville market has evolved, and we’ve decided it’s time for us to exit,” said Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck.
All 57 Janesville employees will have the choice of a transfer to a Schnucks store in the Rockford, Illinois area or a severance package, according to a news release.
For those who transfer, Schnucks will make every effort to place employees in comparable jobs earning the same rate of pay, doing a similar type of work, and working a similar number of scheduled hours per week.
Schnucks Janesville customers can continue to earn and redeem Schnucks Rewards points until the store closes on September 21. After this time, customers can continue earning and redeeming Schnucks Rewards points at any other Schnucks location including those in the Rockford area.
Schnucks opened the 64,000-square-foot Janesville store under its former Logli banner in May 2002; the store was rebranded to Schnucks in 2013.
