JANESVILLE, Wis. – A dog was found dead Monday following a fire in Janesville.

According to a news release, the Janesville Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Forest Park Blvd. for a report of a house fire.

When they arrived, Janesville Fire Department units found fire venting from an attached garage with smoke coming from the second floor and attic.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the first
arriving company, and the search crews located and removed a dog that had succumbed to its injuries.

The homeowner was not present at the time of the fire, according to the news release.

Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $245,000.

26 firefighters reported to the scene. There were no injuries.

The Janesville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Janesville Police Department,
Lakeside Fire Department, and Alliant Energy.

The Red Cross is also assisting the residents affected by the fire.

The cause was determined to be accidental.
