JANESVILLE — Residents will have a chance to discuss and share their views on a possible data center coming to Janesville at a Community Conversation planned for Tuesday at the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center.
The conversation, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, will be moderated by WCLO’s Tim Bremel, with City Manager Kevin Lahner leading the discussion.
Residents are invited to attend, ask questions, and participate in constructive dialogue on the potential redevelopment concept for the GM/JATCO properties.
For those unable to attend the meeting in person, a live-stream of the conversation will be available via JATV Media Services‘ YouTube.
Following Monday’s public comment period at the Janesville City Council meeting where about two dozen residents spoke against the project, the city prepared its own initial data center insights at janesvillewi.gov/insights.
The city currently is considering proposals to build a large-scale data center on the now empty site of the former GM Janesville Assembly Plant on the city’s south side that closed in 2008.
According to Lahner, the city has received two proposals and is considering whether to move forward with a non-binding letter of intent with one of the two companies or rejecting them outright.
“The project could be valued at more than $1 billion and create hundreds of jobs,” Lahner said.
