JANESVILLE — Janesville Parker High School will host a First Lego League Regional from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the school, 3125 Mineral Point Ave.

The event will feature 21 teams from southern Wisconsin. Each team is charged with coming up with a unique problem and then a solution to that problem based on the theme of the game, Archaeology.

Teams will first be judged on their projects and then on their robot designs and programming skills. Teams also will be judged on FLL core values, which are:

  • Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
  • Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
  • Impact:  We apply what we learn to improve our world.
  • Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
  • Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
  • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!

After being judged for about an hour, teams will move to the robot competition phase. Each team will run its robot on the competition board three times to try to come up with the most points.  The team’s run with the most points will constitute its robot’s score for the event. Each of the four scoring segments then will be added for the team’s final score.

The top seven teams from the Janesville Regional will move on to a sectional, slated for December. The top teams at sectionals will then move on to the state finals in mid-January.

Most of the elementary and middle schools in Janesville have First Lego League teams, and most will be represented at this regional.
