McFARLAND — The McFarland police department held a remembrance ceremony Monday in honor of Officer Ryan Copeland, who grew up in Janesville, who died 10 years ago in the line of duty.
Copeland, at 2000 graduate of Janesville Craig High School, was a K-9 handler with tge McFarland Police Department.
He died on Nov. 23, 2015, from injuries sustained in an on-duty traffic crash when his squad car was hit head-on by another vehicle that crossed the center line.
“We honor his courage, service, and the impact he made on our department, K-9 unit, community, and country. Not a day goes by that we don’t remember his dedication and the sacrifices he-and his family-made,” the deoartment wrote in a social media post.
Copeland was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the McFarland Police Department for three years.
