JANESVILLE – A cat was rescued Sunday, and there were no injuries, following an attic fire in Janesville.
According to a news release, the Janesville Fire Department was called shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of N. Sumac Dr. in Janesville for a report of a possible attic fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the roof.
Firefighters then stretched a hoseline to extinguish the fire and also searched the home for anyone inside.
The fire was quickly extinguished and a cat was rescued from the home.
Investigators suspect the cause of the fire was related to a wood-burning appliance, according to the news release.
No injuries were reported, and the residents had safely gotten out before the fire department arrived.
Twenty-three firefighters responded to the scene. The Janesville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Lakeside Fire Department, the Janesville Police Department and Alliant Energy.
In its news release, the Janesville Fire Department reminded people to have working smoke detectors on every level and in every sleeping area. Wood-burning stoves and chimneys should have regular maintenance.
