JANESVILLE — SNOW Janesville, an advocacy group for the city’s south side, will host a program Monday called “Data Center Risks and Myths: A real-world look at taxes, TIDs and local impacts of data center development with Prescott Balch.”

The program runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 at the Hedberg Public Library.

Balch is recently retired technology executive with 38 years of experience in large corporate software development and financial services.

He currently resides in Caledonia and was involved with the economic evaluation of Caledonia’s proposed data center.

What this presentation is:

-A real-world evaluation of risks and myths associated with data center development from someone who spent years in the technology industry.

-A look at financial impacts of data center developments for small cities and towns considering them.

What this presentation is not:

-A walking advertisement for the data center industry;
-A complete denial of the potential benefits of this type of development.
