JANESVILLE — Members of the Janesville Police Department and Janesville Fire Department put their training to work during a real-life emergency while attending the 2025 Active Shooter Integrated Response Conference last week in Texas.
According to a news release from the City of Janesville, when a conference attendee suddenly collapsed, JPD School Resource Officer Carmen Roche, Officers Devin Austin-Johnson and Michael Rear, Police Sergeant Jeremy Wiley, and Firefighter/ Paramedic (FF/PM) Mitchell Severson found themselves responding to a real-life emergency.
The team acted immediately to call 911, perform.CPR, and secured the scene.
Thanks to their quick thinking, teamwork, and coordinated response, the individual survived a heart attack and regained consciousness before being transported by EMS.
The following day, the Janesville team was recognized at the conference for their life-saving actions.
In a social media post, the City of Janesville saluted the team for their dedication, preparedness, and for representing Janesville with excellence.
