BELOIT — About 17 residents are sheltering at the Merrill Elementary School following an early morning fire at a business in Beloit.

According to an update from the Beloit Fire Department shortly before 10 a.m., the fire has been contained.

There are no reports of injury. The building at the business did collapse, however, no one was hurt in that collapse.

Fire officials don’t have a total number of individuals evacuated, but 17 people are being served at Merrill Elementary School.

At this time, authorities do not know how long the evacuation period will last, however they do not currently anticipate needing further evacuations.

Firefighters will continue to work with local and state partners as it relates to any environmental and/or health impacts.
