JANESVILLE — Janesville police say a pedestrian is dead after being struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday evening in downtown Janesville.
Janesville police were called about 6:45 p.m. to a traffic accident with injury in the 600 Block of W. Milwaukee Street.
A vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man was traveling westbound on Milwaukee Street approaching the Five Points intersection, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.
That’s when a 34-year-old man ran into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle, police say.
The driver left the scene but was later located by officers, according to police.
The 34-year-old man who was hit was transported to a local hospital by the Janesville Fire Department and was later pronounced deceased.
The driver was taken to the Rock County Jail and is awaiting formal charges in court.
