EVANSVILLE — Property owners spend a second day Saturday working to recover from a powerful tornado that raced through parts of Rock County Thursday evening.

Following further evaluation of damage east of Evansville, the National Weather Service determined that the Evansville-Lake Koshkonong tornado had peak winds of 130 m.p.h.

This confirms the preliminary rating of EF2 that touched down just south of Evansville at 5:41 p.m.

The tornado was on the ground for roughly 24 miles, passing just north of Edgerton and traveling north of Lake Koshkonong.

Just 30 minutes earlier, a separate tornado touched down and was on the ground for roughly eight miles, ending near Albany.

Only one person was reportedly taken to the hospital.

By Saturday afternoon, Rock County Emergency Management had arranged for porta potties and pallets of bottled water at Porter Town Hall (8809 N Wilder Road, Evansville, WI 53536) and Yahara Valley Elementary School (8643 N Raymond Road, Edgerton, WI 53534) for residents and volunteers involved in the cleanup.

Authorities began scaling down the command post in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly established after the tornado. Law enforcement will maintain an increased presence in the affected area.

For property access and other non-life-threatening law enforcement needs, residents in the affected area should call the Rock County Communications Center non-emergency line: 608-757-2244.

Residents should continue to dial 211 for damage reports and unmet resource needs.
