JANESVILLE — Expect the gym to be packed Saturday as the Janesville Craig Cougars’ boys’ basketball team takes on Kettle Moraine with a trip to state on the line.
But there will be a noticeably empty spot on the sideline.
Sam Loizzo, a former social studies teacher turned photographer, passed away Thursday at the age of 69, according to Schneider Funeral home.
Loizzo has been a fixture at Craig and Parker sporting events for years.
If you’ve been a high school athlete in Janesville, or had kids in sports, chances are Loizzo has your photograph in has vast archive.
Loizzo and his wife, Laura, both are former Janesville educators.
According to a 2019 profile in the Janesville Craig Criterion, Loizzo said as his time as a teacher, he had the opportunity to teach and make a difference in the lives of about 3,200 students. His former students have extended to many walks of life.
A visitation is planned for Friday, March 15, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Directors, 1800 East Racine Street,
Janesville, according to Schneider.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Cargill United Methodist Church,
2000 Wesley Ave., Janesville, with visitation preceding.
