JANESVILLE — A Rock County Jail inmate was found dead in a cell Saturday evening by a correctional officer.
According to a news release, the officer was conducting a routine security check about 8:40 p.m. Saturday and discovered the inmate hanging in his cell.
The deceased, age 30, of Beloit, was taken into custody in April on criminal charges and a probation violation.
The inmate was housed in a cell by himself. Additional officers and jail medical staff responded to the scene and immediately started life saving measures.
Rock County Dispatch was notified, and Janesville Fire Department Paramedics responded along
with The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Rock County Medical Examiner
Office.
Paramedics took over advanced life-saving measures which were unsuccessful.
The Rock County Medical Examiner staff are working with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office
Detective Bureau to conduct the death investigation which will be reviewed by staff from the
Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Office of Detention Facilities.
An investigation of this incident is continuing.
An autopsy will be conducted Monday, 09/16/2024 in Madison at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
