JANESVILLE — The Janesville Fire Department responded to two separate fires Monday, and all residents were able to get out safely.
The first fire was reported about 7 a.m. in the 800 block of Matheson Street.
According to a news release, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.
Two people who lived there got out of the home prior to JFD arrival, but two dogs were reported to still be inside the home.
Firefighters quickly extinguish a fire traveling through the attic area while other units performed a search.
One dog got out of the home on its own and the other dog was located inside by fire crews.
Both dogs were unharmed and were reunited with the owners.
Later in the day, about 5:15 p.m., JFD units were sent to 1601 Randall Ave for a reported commercial fire occurring at an apartment complex.
When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire in a first floor apartment.
The building residents had been instructed to pull the fire alarm by 911 Dispatch and many had already left the building prior to JFD arrival. JPD also assisted in evacuation of the building.
Firefighters performed a fire attack and quickly contained the fire to the single apartment, which was damaged extensively. Several other units performed a search of the building and helped with significant smoke removal.
No injuries were reported and the fire cause remains under investigation.
