EVANSVILLE — Power was restored to Evansville overnight but remains out in rural areas after a rare February tornado tore through eastern Green and Western Rock counties Thursday evening.
The Evansville Community School District announced there would be no classes today because of the power outage.
Multiple roads remain closed, which will affect the morning commute, including:
- West HWY 14 from County M to County HWY H
- County M from Territorial Road to County HWY H
- West HWY 59 from Tolles Rd to County Hwy H
- North Tolles from Hwy 59 to HWY 14
- North Wilde from HWY 59 to Hwy 14
- North Riley from 59 to Hwy 14
By 3:30 a.m. Friday, Evansville police said most of the City of Evansville had restored power.
There are still many outside of the City of Evansville without power.
City of Evansville Police, Fire, and EMS personnel were out until the early morning hours of Friday conducting checks of care facilities and known elderly and disabled citizens.

Preliminary checks within the city limits of Evansville have been conducted and no one has reported injuries or serious damage within the city of Evansville.
Most damage occurred outside of the city in Union and Porter Townships.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Rock County Emergency Management are working on assessing the damage.
According the the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, multiple reports began coming in about 5:30 p.m. of funnel clouds near Highway 59.
At 5:37 p.m., there was a reports of tornado on the ground tracking northeast on the north side of Albany.
