JANESVILLE — Police are investigating after two people reported hearing the sound of possible gunfire Thursday on Janesville’s west side.

So far, however, police have found no evidence of a shooting.

According to a news release from the Janesville Police Department, officers were sent shortly after noon Thursday to the area of Ravine Street and North Oakhill Avenue on the city’s west side for a report of possible shots fired.

Two witnesses reported hearing one to two loud popping sounds and hearing vehicle tires squealing.

School Resource Officers relayed the information to school administrators so that precautionary safety protocols could be implemented.

Patrol officers responded to the area and conducted a search, but did not locate any evidence indicating that a shooting had occurred. Additionally, Rock County Dispatch received no other calls reporting similar activity in the area at that time.

At this time, officers have not identified any victims, suspects, or property damage related to the report.
