JANESVILLE — A porch fire was quickly extinguished early Sunday in Janesville allowing the residents to return to the home.

According to a news release, Janesville firefighters and police responded to the 500 block of S. Franklin shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday for a reported residential fire.

When they arrived, police found an exterior fire on the front corner of the home and porch area.

The first officer on the scene was able to knock down the fire with an extinguisher.

Janesville Fire Department units arrived a short time later and checked for fire extension. The remaining smoldering fire was quickly extinguished.

Several resident’s of the home safely evacuated prior to emergency personnel arrival and were able to return into their home after the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no damage estimate is available at this time.
