JANESVILLE — Janesville police say three people are dead and one is critically injured following a shooting Tuesday morning at a Janesville apartment complex.

Officers responded at 11:04 a.m. Tuesday to a unit in the Aspen Square Apartments in the 2600 block of Holiday Drive, Police Chief Chad Pearson said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference.

He said a 911 call had come in about what he said was a family issue, followed by a second reporting shots fired.

When officers entered the unit, they found three people dead and one critically injured, Pearson said. The critically injured person was then transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There were no children present in the unit, however their are families in the building, police said.

Pearson had no additional information about a possible motive and said the investigation is in its early stages.

As of 12:30 p.m., the area is secure in the 2600 block of Holiday Drive, however police so far have not revealed what happened.

Police say there are no credible threats to the community at this time.

The apartment building is across from Kiwanis Park near Woodman’s on the city’s east side.

Police were seen huddling near the entryway of one of the apartment buildings for most of the afternoon, while nearby the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Beloit Police Department had set up their mobile command posts.
