JANESVILLE — A bicyclist died Monday in what appears to be a collision between the cyclist and a city garbage truck.

According to a news release from the city of Janesville, the Janesville Police and Fire Departments responded at about 10:20 a.m. Monday, to the intersection of Milton Avenue and East Memorial Drive for a traffic incident involving a City of Janesville trash and recycling collection truck and a cyclist.

When they arrived, public safety personnel attempted lifesaving measures on the cyclist involved, who died of their injuries at the scene. The driver of the collection vehicle remained on scene.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident.

As of noon, motorists are asked to avoid the intersection of Milton Avenue and East Memorial Drive.

No additional information will be available until the conclusion of the investigation.

The City of Janesville expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
