JANESVILLE — A Janesville woman was arrested after school Wednesday for carrying a holstered firearm on her hip while picking up students at a elementary school.
State law does not allow people to have weapons on school grounds.
Officers were called about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday to Van Buren Elementary School for a report of a woman in possession of a firearm that was holstered on her hip.
Officers contacted the 41-year-old woman who was waiting on school grounds for children she was authorized to pick up after school.
She was taken into custody on the charge of Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone and later released from the Janesville Police Department.
The Janesville News Report is not naming the woman until she is formally charged in court.
