JANESVILLE — Janesville City Council member Josh Erdman is encouraging residents, particularly south sliders, to express their interest in being named to an advisory board that will guide the redevelopment of the former GM/Jatco site.

This past Monday, the Janesville City Council approved the creation of an 11-person board to help consider the various options of redevelopment of the GM/JATCO site that the City of Janesville has acquired.

Among the options is the possibility of luring a data center to the property.

In a social media post, Erdman said councilmembers are to recommend candidates for selection by the city manager.

The positions that will be filled by council recommendations are three positions of citizens living in the nearby area, two at-large citizens, and three city businesspersons (at least one business from southside), according to Erdman.

The commitment to serve on the board will be for an estimated 18 to 24 months but there is no current schedule for frequency of meetings or known attendance requirements.

It is vital that anyone appointed to the board is prepared to dedicate themself to participating fully in the process to help guide development of what will be a major project for the future of the city.

Erdman has created an application that he will be using to make his personal recommendations.

All submissions will be treated like other open communications with elected officials and subject to applicable laws.
