WHITEWATER — A fatal two-vehicle collision west of Whitewater Monday morning left one driver dead and sent the other to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a news release, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Whitewater Police Department, Milton Police Department, along with fire personnel from Whitewater and Lakeside fire, were dispatched about 8 a.m. Monday to a traffic crash with injuries.
Investigators say a car, driven by a 56-year-old Whitewater woman was traveling west on County Highway N, west of Whitewater.
An SUV, driven by a 53-year-old Janesville man, was traveling east at the same time.
That’s when investigators say the westbound car crossed into the eastbound lane resulting in a virtually head-on collision between the front of both vehicles.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle, and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the SUV was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team assisted with the crash.
The name of the deceased will be released later by the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crash investigation is ongoing.
