JANESVILLE — The Town Hall Coalition will hold a protest on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to mark the one-year anniversary of the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
The coalition invites residents to join them at the corner of highways 14 and 26 (Humes Road and Milton Avenue) in Janesville from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday. The demonstration will be along Highway 14 near Festival Foods and Qdoba. Bring signs of protest, or just show up, dressed for the weather. The themes will be mourning and anti-fascism. Black outerwear is encouraged.
This protest is intended to be a peaceful expression of dissatisfaction and outrage – as protected by the Constitution — with the acts of the Trump administration.
“The Trump administration has been committing unconstitutional and dangerous acts since Jan. 20, 2025. More than 30 have died while being detained by ICE. Two were killed on the streets: Keith Porter and Renee Good,” said THC organizer Edie Baran. “These actions, among many others, are causing more divisiveness among us at a time when we really need to be united. Trump and his cabinet and secretaries are the true domestic terrorists, creating chaos on our streets and fear and anger in our hearts. I applaud all the people from coast to coast who are speaking up, who are marching on our streets, who are standing brave.”
Jan. 20 is also the day that national organizations, such as the 50501 Movement, are calling for a “Free America Walkout,” in which people leave their daily routines to disrupt business as usual.
“We need action that tests our strength, builds coordination, and proves that noncompliance is a legitimate response to injustice.” According to the 50501 website.
Free America events are scheduled in Whitewater, 3-4:30 p.m. at 710 W Starin Road, and Delavan, 12:15-1:15 p.m. at 1931 Geneva St., according to 50501.
Town Hall Coalition also participates in protests at:
— 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays in front of Rep. Bryan Steil’s office on Main Street.
–Fridays in front of the U.S. Post Office on Milton Avenue.
— Saturdays at 10-11 a.m. at Highways 26 and 14.
