JANESVILLE — Advocacy groups opposing data center projects in Beloit and Janesville are getting a boost from a high-profile guest speaker a public town hall later this month at Blackhawk Technical College.
The event, set for April 21, features special guest speaker Charlie Berens, a comedian and journalist, alongside a panel of environmental and technology experts.
According to a news release, the meeting is a joint effort by the groups heading the No Beloit Data Center and No Janesville Data Center movements.
Organizers said that everyone in Rock County is welcome to attend the session, which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the college’s conference center.
The speaker lineup includes Dr. Brittany Keyes, a clean air policy manager with Healthy Climate Wisconsin, and Prescott Balch, a retired technology executive with nearly four decades of experience in software development and financial services. Also scheduled to speak are Lori Huntoon, president and founder of Huntoon Environmental Risk Advisors, and Brit Bumpus, a former Meta employee and Beaver Dam resident.
Doors for the event open at 5:15 p.m. Guest presentations are scheduled for the first hour, followed by a panel discussion and audience question-and-answer session starting at 7 p.m.
