EMERALD GROVE — As cleanup began Saturday following the overnight tornado in Emerald Grove, Gov. Tony Earl along with Rock County Sheriff Curt Fell and other officials toured the hardest hit areas.

The tornado touched down about 6:30 p.m., Fell said in a Saturday morning news conference, damaging 10 structures or residences in the eastern part of the county.

Evers met with residents late Saturday morning and surveyed the damage.

Residents whose structures were damaged are asked to call 211 to report damage to their homes, mobile homes, apartments, or businesses. This helps local agencies identify impacted areas and plan damage assessments. Please note that staff will not contact homeowners or conduct detailed site inspections like insurance adjusters.

Janesville’s Demolition Landfill will be open Saturday until 5 p.m. The facility will remain closed on Sunday, April 19, for road repairs required due to heavy traffic on the site’s saturated, unpaved surfaces.

City crews will complete necessary repairs in preparation for the facility to reopen on Monday, April 20. The site’s hours and a list of accepted materials are available at janesvillewi.gov/compost.
