JANESVILLE — Students at Janesville’s Washington Elementary will not have school this week as the district works to find an alternate location due to extensive flood damage.
The building is unusable for the near future, Superintendent Mark Holzman said in a statement Sunday evening.

“We are reaching out tonight after a weekend of evaluating our schools for water damage.
“We are very thankful to our custodial and maintenance teams for their fast work this weekend. All of our buildings are ready for school use, except for Washington and Franklin’s gym.
“Washington Elementary has extensive water damage, and we are very sorry to say we will not be able to have school at Washington in the near future. We are working on an alternate instructional location and are asking their students to stay home this week.
“Please keep the Washington staff and students in your thoughts. We are grateful that everyone is safe, and we will get through this together.”

School District of Janesville
