JANESVILLE — Six new officers have joined the Janesville Police Department and were sworn in Wednesday during a ceremony in Council Chambers.
The officers are:
Officer Ian R. Grice from Beloit graduated from Turner High School and joined the US Army where he currently is a combat engineer and squad leader. He has served in the army since 2011. Grice comes to Janesville after beginnig his law enforcement career as a correctional officer in 2022 and moved to patrol officer in 2024, bringing 2 years of experience to the Janesville Police Department.
Officer Noah L. Johnson from Milton graduated from Milton High School and earned his associate degree in Criminal Justice from Blackhawk Technical College in 2017. Johnson began his career in 2017, and brings 9 years of experience to Janesville Police Department. He has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, a standardized field Slsobriety testing instructor, an advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement instructor, a Dldrug recognition expert and a member of a SWAT team.
Officer Tyler. R. Leith from Milton graduated from Milton High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in education – Health, Physical Education, and Adapted Physical Education with an emphasis on nutrition. He previously worked at Northside Intermediate School as a Health and PE teacher. He will be attending the Blackhawk Technical College Police Academy in August 2026.
Officer Catelyn M. Malinowski from Beloit graduated from Parkview Senior High School and earned her associate degree in Criminal Justice from Blackhawk Technical College in 2025. Malinowski began her career in law enforcement as a community service officer in 2023 and moved to patrol officer in 2024, bringing 2 years of experience to the Janesville Police Department.
Officer James T. Mann is originally from Grand Forks, ND before moving to Illinois. He graduated from Red River High School. He was a member of the North Dakota Army National Guard from 2007-2014. He completed the Peace Officer Training Program at Lake Region State College in 2009 and the Criminal Justice Program at Rasmussen College in 2016. Mann has worked as a military police officer, a deputy for a county sheriff’s office, and most recently a patrol Slsergeant, bringing 14 years of experience to the Janesville Police Department.
Officer Garrett T. Rieger from Fort Atkinson graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and attended UW-Whitewater. He has been a member of the US Army National Guard since 2019. He has previously worked for the Whitewater Fire Department, Mercy Health Systems, Superior Ambulance Services, and Ryan Brothers Ambulance Services in Madison. He will be attending the Blackhawk Technical College Police Academy in August 2026.
