JANESVILLE — One of two finalists for Janesville’s vacant city manager job, Colin Kennedy, has apparently been ousted from his current job in Rhode Island.

Kennedy, who up until Saturday was the city manager in Newport, Rhode Island, and Rebecca Houseman, Fort Atkinson’s city manager, were announced Tuesday as Janesville’s remaining finalists.

According to Newport Now, The Newport City Council voted on Aug. 15 to place Kennedy on paid administrative leave effective immediately.

The decision to not renew Kennedy’s contract was one of two votes taken by the council in the Aug. 15 executive session. The second was to place Kennedy on paid leave.

According to the news outlet’s sources, Kennedy has hired a lawyer and is threatening the city with legal action, citing a hostile work environment.
