JANESVILLE — Janesville will host its fourth No Kings rally on Oct. 17, at The Marvin Roth Community Paviliion in Courthouse Park. The focus will be on America’s big, beautiful day of democracy, Election Day.
The election is Nov. 3. Early voting is already underway.
According to a news release, organizers are planning a Saturday afternoon of fun, along with messages about why voting matters and, for those with questions, information about registration, ballots and other voting matters. They named the event “Celebrate Your Power: Vote!”
DJ Cody and Edgerton musician Bill Conway will provide musical entertainment. A generation of Parker High School students will remember Mr. Conway the teacher but may not know he’s a talented musician who has brought his rock classics, Americana and original songs to three continents.
The fun will include a hat contest with prizes, a free-book table and snacks that will include apples and the salty-sweet local product Elmer’s Kettle Corn, while they last.
Nonperishible food items will be collected for ECHO.
“The event is nonpartisan,” noted organizer Brad Munger of the League of Women Voters of Janesville. The League as well as the national No Kings organization are nonpartisan.
“The LWV-US has declared a constitutional crisis,” Munger noted. “Everyone interested in emerging from our constitutional crisis is invited.”
Past No Kings brought out hundreds of people to downtown Janesville, raising their voices in nonviolent demonstration.
Organizers are the same as in past No Kings events: Town Hall Coalition and Indivisible Rock County, and the Janesville League of Women Voters has joined the team this time.
