JANESVILLE — Although Janesville was spared for the most part, areas in west and northern Rock County were hit hard Friday morning by large hail.

Ruby Schleif of Edgerton was one of those sharing to social media when she posted photos of a yard covered in hail that ranged from the size of a marble to nearly a baseball.

Other residents reported dings to their vehicles along with roof damage.

The storm began moving into the area about 7:10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service, along with wind speeds as high as 60 m.p.h.

Another band of storms that could produce more hail and damaging winds is expected to move through Rock County Friday about dinner time.
