JANESVILLE — Washington Elementary students who headed off to two new schools Monday had one less thing to worry about thanks to the donation of school supplies from a local company.

Washington School was hard hit by the April 17 flooding in Janesville, and will not reopen this year.

Adams and Madison elementary schools had unused classrooms, so Washington students were split between the two schools, allowing them to remain with their classmates and teachers at their new buildings for the remainder of the year.

The team from the Dollar General Distribution Center on Janesville’s south side dropped off boxes of school supplies for each Washington student and a bonus bag for each staff member.

Dollar General brought the bags to Adams and Madison schools so the Washington staff could have them for their new spaces in time for Monday’s learning.

“Thank you to all of our community members who have reached out to ask how they may help, and thank you to Dollar General for the extra love for our Washington staff and students,” the school wrote on its Facebook page.
