JANESVILLE — The Janesville City Council on Monday is expected to vote on a 60-day extension of its letter of intent with data center developer Viridian Partners. This will be the first opportunity that the new members of the council, elected in April, will have to vote on the project.
The council meeting begins at 6 p.m., Monday, June 22 in the council chambers in City Hall. The meeting will stream live on the JATV YouTube channel.
According to the staff memo, an extension would maintain the bridge between the letter of intent and purchase and sale agreement phases while the City completes zoning and building code updates and continues to gather public input.
It also allows time for additional community engagement, research and educational sessions as the city evaluates data center codes, policies, ordinances and community impacts.
The letter of intent, approved by the council in November 2025, lays out what developer Veridian Partners needs to learn before entering into a more formal developers agreement. (Read the letter of intent here)
It remains non-binding and does not obligate the city to sell the property or provide financial participation. An extension preserves mutual intent to negotiate in good faith while keeping the City of Janesville in full control of any future agreements, extensions, or land conveyance decisions, according to the staff memo.
