JANESVILLE — Clint Woodman, who with his father, Phil, stars in the ubiquitous TV commercials for their Janesville-based chain of grocery stores, has been promoted to CEO.

Woodman succeeds his father, Phil Woodman, as CEO, while longtime company veteran Kristin Popp to succeed him as president.

Phil Woodman, who has been with the company since 1966, was named chairman of the board as a part of the planned transition, as reported in Supermarket News.

Clint Woodman, a 28-year company veteran, is a fourth-generation member of the family that runs the chain.

He joined the company in 1998 after graduating from business school, the same year that his father sold a majority of the company to its employees, transitioning it to become a Sub-Chapter S company, according to the company’s website.

Woodman’s was founded by John Woodman in 1919 as a produce stand at the corner of Milton and Sherman Avenues in Janesville. Two years later, in 1921, the family opened their first official grocery store building at 922 Milton Ave.
