JANESVILLE — Following the April 27 City Council Meeting, City Manager Kevin Lahner and the Janesville City Council mutually agreed to part ways, with his resignation effective May 29, 2026.

The city of Janesville made the announcement Monday night in a news release.

Lahner, a Waukesha resident, has served in the role since 2023.

“It has been a privilege to serve the City of Janesville and collaborate with the dedicated employees, City Councilmembers, and community partners who are committed to this community,” Lahner said in the news release. “We have achieved meaningful progress together, and while I’ve decided to pursue new professional opportunities, I do so with full confidence in Janesville’s continued success.”

The city council will discuss next steps regarding interim leadership and the process for selecting the City’s next City Manager in the coming weeks.

“On behalf of the City Council, we thank City Manager Lahner for his service to the City of Janesville and for his leadership during his tenure,” said Council President Larry Squire. “We appreciate his contributions to the community and wish him the very best moving forward.”

City services and day‑to‑day operations will continue without interruption during this transition.

“The City of Janesville has excellent and dedicated staff members who will ensure priorities and initiatives continue moving forward during this time,” Squire said.
